Join host Ian Redmond on a virtual voyage through the Virunga Volcanoes of East Africa, spectacular home to half of the world’s Mountain Gorillas!
The tour will trace the story of European interaction with these gentle giants, beginning with the dizzying heights of Mount Sabinyo, pausing in a misty glade to pay our respects at Dian Fossey’s grave, and finishing with Rwanda’s Kwita Izina gorilla-naming ceremony and a visit with the Susa group on the flanks of Mount Karisimbi.
Part two of the Virunga Volcanoes tour will continue next week, 15 October 2015.
Ian Redmond is vEco’s Adviser and Ambassador, and a wildlife biologist and conservationist renowned for his work with great apes and elephants. As with his mentor, the late Dr Dian Fossey, the focus of his work shifted in 1978 from research to conservation work, after poachers killed Digit – a famous young silverback – to sell his skull and hands. He established and chairs The Ape Alliance, served as Ambassador for the UN Year of the Gorilla 2009, and was awarded an OBE for services to conservation in 2006.
vEcoLive is our ground-breaking experimental platform that allows virtual ecotourists to share a group tour experience, chat with fellow tourists and ask the tour guide questions, and hear live audio commentary from an expert host.
